Your 3-Step System For Healthy Hair

STEP 1: Cleanse

Every hair care regimen starts with clean hair and a clean scalp.

Use this gentle, non-drying and conditioning Black Honey African Black Soap Sulfate-Free shampoo on wash day to remove product buildup, debris and environmental toxins from the hair and scalp. Wet hair thoroughly and apply a small amount to hair. Work through hair, then rinse. Repeat if necessary.

STEP 2: Moisturize and Strengthen

Moisturizers are meant to add needed hydration and is extremely beneficial for textured hair. Why? Because the natural sebum from the scalp has a hard time navigating the curly terrain, so it needs help.

For all over hydration: Separatee clean, damp hair into sections prior to styling and apply a small amount to each section. A little goes a long way.

For dry ends: Do you pineapple or wrap your hair at night? This is a great time to add a bit of moisturizer to the ends of your hair and let it absorb while you sleep.

Ayurvedic Recipes To Boost Your Regimen

VATA (dry) Hair

For Vata hair, which tends to be dry, frizzy, and prone to breakage, Ayurveda recommends deeply nourishing and grounding herbal recipes.

Vata-Balancing Herbal Hair Mask

Ingredients:

2 tbsp amla powder
1 tbsp fenugreek powder
2 tbsp hibiscus powder or paste
Enough yogurt to make a smooth paste

Instructions

Mix all powders in a bowl.
Add yogurt until a creamy paste forms.
Apply to scalp ad hair, focusing on dry ends.
Leave on for 20-30 minutes.
Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.

PITTA (combination) Hair

For Pitta dosha hair, which is prone to inflammation, sensitivity, premature greying, and thinning, Ayurveda recommends cooling, soothing, and nourishing herbs and oils.

Pitta-Soothing Aloe & Hibiscus Hair Mask

Ingredients:

2 tbsp fresh aloe vera gel
1 tbsp hibiscus powder
1 tbsp amla powder
Enough rosewater to make a smooth paste

Instructions:

Mix all ingredients in a bowl until you get a creamy consistency.
Apply to scalp and hair, focusing on the roots.
Leave on 20-30 minutes.
Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.

KAPHA (oily) Hair

For Kapha dosha hair, which often tends to be oily, heavy, thick, and prone to scalp congestion or dandruff, Ayurveda recommends focusing on cleansing, stimulating, and balancing excess oil.

Ingredients:

50g Neem leaves
5 tbsp Black cumin seeds
500ml Mustard Seed oil

Instructions:

Add mustard seed oil to a pan and bring to a gentle boil.
Add neem leaves and black cumin seeds.
Simmer on low heat for about 10-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Do not let the oil smoke.
Allow to cool, then strain using cheesecloth or a fine strainer.
Store in a clean glass bottle, away from sunlight.
